From AI-powered voice assistants and smartwatches to drones and intelligent networks, today’s most exciting innovations arise at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). FIU’s Bachelor of Science in Applied AI & IoT equips students with hands-on skills to design, develop, and secure intelligent, connected systems that are transforming every industry—from healthcare and energy to autonomous vehicles and smart cities. This program is designed to provide foundational knowledge in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, Embedded Systems and IoT. Students graduating from the program will be AI Ready and can use AI Tools to solve problems in different application areas or domains. 

Program Overview

The B.S. in Applied AI & IoT is a cutting-edge undergraduate STEM degree focused on real-world applications of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Embedded Systems, and IoT technologies. Students will develop expertise in:

  • AI and Machine Learning with Python, TensorFlow, and PyTorch
  • Data Driven AI to perform analytics supporting different applications/domains
  • Building and deploying models on embedded devices like NVIDIA Jetson Nano and Raspberry Pi
  • Designing circuits, programming microcontrollers, and working with real-time sensor data
  • Securing smart systems using AI-driven cybersecurity tools
  • Developing cloud-based data pipelines and analyzing big data from connected devices

This is a lab-intensive, project-based program that emphasizes practical skills, teamwork, and innovation to solve global challenges.

Degree Requirements

120 credits are required to graduate. Lower division requirements include at least 60 credit hours of pre-engineering credits. You must also meet the University Foreign Language Requirement, and meet all of the state and university requirements for graduation.
