Dr. John L. Volakis Receives 2026 IEEE Electromagnetics Award

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering proudly congratulates Dr. John L. Volakis on being selected to receive the prestigious 2026 IEEE Electromagnetics Award.

Presented by the IEEE Board of Directors, this award honors Dr. Volakis “for contributions to computational electromagnetics and antenna technologies.” It is one of IEEE’s highest distinctions, recognizing individuals whose groundbreaking work has significantly advanced the engineering profession and technological innovation.

A global leader in the field, Dr. Volakis is renowned for his pioneering research in computational methods, hybrid modeling, and antenna design—impacting wireless communications, national defense, and medical technologies.

“This is a career award that reflects the support of former students, dedicated colleagues, government and industry sponsors, and the leadership at FIU,” said Dr. Volakis. “I am honored to receive it as a member of the FIU faculty.”
