Title: ECE doctoral student receives IEEE Photonics Society travel grants
Date: June 18, 2019
Congratulations to Naznin Akter, electrical and computer engineering doctoral student, for being awarded two travel grants by the IEEE Photonics Society. The first is a $2,500 travel grant to attend the IEEE Summer Topicals 2019 Conference, taking place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from July 8-10, funded through the Women in Photonics program. The second is a $2,500 travel grant to attend the IEEE RAPID (Research and Applications of Photonics in Defense) Conference 2019, taking place in Miramar Beach, Florida from August 19-21.
Akter is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at the INSYST Lab, within the Department of Electrical and Computing Engineering at Florida International University. She has nano-fabrication and characterization experience in developing a broad range of fabrication techniques for various devices and materials. She is currently working on nanophotonics, plasmonics, metamaterials, biosensing and THz technology advancement process.
Akter's ongoing research includes simulation, fabrication and characterization of THz plasmonic resonant detectors, sensors, etc. To this end, several different geometries and different material devices have been fabricated and enlisted to fabricate, electronic and optical properties are characterized using both the THz-TDS set-up and BWO setups integrated with electrical characterization purposes both at room temperature and cryogenic temperature.
She has been inducted by the Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society for her outstanding academic achievements.
