Big news! CONGRATULATIONS to Mohammad Ashiqur Rahman on his new award!

The Department of Energy's Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER) has announced $15 million in funding to establish six university-based regional cybersecurity centers. Each center will collaborate with energy sector stakeholders in its region to conduct innovative cybersecurity research that enhances the energy systems' resiliency and offers cybersecurity training to meet the nation's energy workforce needs.

One of these centers, the Center for Agile and Intelligent Power Systems (CAIPS), will be established at FIU. Dr. Rahman leads this $2.5M effort where FIU partners with multiple universities (North Carolina State University, the University of Alabama Birmingham, Tennessee Tech, and the University of West Florida), national labs (Idaho National Lab), and industries (Raytheon Technologies and Bedrock Systems). The center will receive support from Tennessee Valley Authority and Florida Power Limited as utility partners. FIU team includes Drs. Sumit Paudyal, Mo Sha, Arif Sarwat, and Kemal Akkaya.

Dr. Rahman and his team will research and develop various moving target defense (MTD) techniques to prevent cyberattacks by hiding the system from the adversary. The proposed approaches consider different cyber and physical moves and their controlled applications in the power systems to deceive adversaries, limiting the potential threat space.
