Abstract: For over 35 years, Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) has funded over $2B in university pre-competitive research in semiconductor related fields. SRC along with its members have defined relevant research necessary to attack and remove technical roadblocks facing the semiconductor industry while advancing the state-of-the-art. With SRC’s academia, industry and government partners, SRC repeatedly has produced ground breaking research results tackling the most intractable challenges that has contributed substantially to the fulfilment of Moore’s Law. Furthermore, this partnership has accelerated the transition from research results in the lab to commercialization while helping to create the next generation leaders. In the history of the semiconductor industry, there has been no other period in time as there is today with as much uncertainty in the way forward. However, this uncertainty presents a great opportunity for breakthrough research. This talk will identify some of the challenges the industry is facing and the research agenda being pursued to address these challenges. As we look into the future, it is certain that SRC will be there taking the lead through continued investment in university research creating opportunities for industry renewal.

Bio: Ken Hansen is currently President and CEO of Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC). Prior to joining SRC, he was Vice President and Chief Technology Officer with Freescale Semiconductor. Previously, he held several senior technology and management positions at Freescale and Motorola leading research and development teams. Ken received the BSEE and MSEE degrees from the University of Illinois where he also has been recognized as an ECE and College of Engineering Distinguished Alumni, is a Fellow of the IEEE, and holds 11 U.S. patents. Ken is an industry veteran, with over 40 years of experience in technical management and system/circuit design, primarily in the area of wireless communications.
